From 7 October 2023 to 4 February 2024, Palazzo Strozzi hosted Anish Kapoor. Untrue Unreal, a major exhibition conceived in direct dialogue with the artist and curated by Arturo Galansino.
Anish Kapoor in dialogue with Palazzo Strozzi
The exhibition brought together historical works and recent pieces, as well as a new production created specifically for the Renaissance courtyard. The installations transformed the relationship between solids and voids, reflective and absorbing surfaces, geometric and biomorphic forms.
Palazzo Strozzi’s architecture was not simply a container. It became part of the experience, repeatedly challenging visitors’ perception of scale, depth and space.
Untrue Unreal: between the real and the impossible
The title highlighted one of the most fascinating tensions in Kapoor’s work: the unstable boundary between what we perceive as real and what appears impossible. Concave and convex, whole and fractured, visible and dark alternated in works that directly involved both the body and the eye.
A past exhibition in Florence
Untrue Unreal closed on 4 February 2024. This page remains as an archive of the exhibition and as a record of a powerful recent encounter between contemporary art and Renaissance architecture at Palazzo Strozzi.
