Donatello, the Renaissance in Florence
Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and the Bargello Museums presented Donatello, the Renaissance, a major exhibition devoted to one of the most important and influential artists in Italian art.
Curated by Francesco Caglioti, the project was conceived as a single exhibition across two venues, Palazzo Strozzi and the Museo Nazionale del Bargello. It reconstructed Donatello’s extraordinary career by placing his works in dialogue with masterpieces by artists including Brunelleschi, Masaccio, Andrea Mantegna, Giovanni Bellini, Raphael and Michelangelo.
The exhibition approached Donatello across time, geography, materials, techniques and artistic genres, drawing on collaborations with museums, collections and institutions in Florence, elsewhere in Italy and abroad.
It was organised by Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi and Musei del Bargello in collaboration with the Staatliche Museen in Berlin and the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
