David Bowie through the lens of Masayoshi Sukita
Heroes – Bowie by Sukita was a retrospective dedicated to David Bowie through the photographs of Japanese master Masayoshi Sukita.
The exhibition presented sixty large-format photographs, some shown in Italy for the first time, retracing a relationship that lasted more than forty years. Alongside the iconic images connected with the cover of the album Heroes, the exhibition included historical photographs from Sukita’s personal archive documenting an artistic friendship that began in the 1970s.
The setting was Palazzo Medici Riccardi, the fifteenth-century Medici residence. The contrast between the historic palace and images of one of the defining figures of contemporary popular culture was an essential part of the project.
The exhibition was curated by ONO Arte Contemporanea.
