MASTERPIECES, COLLECTIONS AND THE HISTORY OF THE CITY
Florence’s museums: Renaissance art, the Medici and great collections
Visiting Florence’s museums means travelling through centuries of art, history and patronage. The collections of the Uffizi, the Accademia, Pitti Palace, the Bargello and Palazzo Vecchio reveal the artists, families and events that shaped the city’s identity.
Each museum requires a different pace and way of looking. As part of my guided tours in Florence, we can focus on one collection or create an itinerary that connects several museums through an artist, a period or a theme.
THE RENAISSANCE
The Uffizi and the great masters
The Uffizi Gallery brings together works by Botticelli, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Raphael, Titian and Caravaggio. A guided tour helps you follow the development of painting and understand the masterpieces in their historical context.
MICHELANGELO
The Accademia and sculpture
The Accademia Gallery houses the David and the most important group of Michelangelo sculptures held in a museum. The visit reveals the artist’s working process, his materials and the meaning of the works.
PALACES AND COLLECTIONS
Pitti, the Bargello and Palazzo Vecchio
Pitti Palace, the Bargello Museum and Palazzo Vecchio tell the story of court life, civic power and Florentine sculpture. They may be visited separately or connected in a Medici-themed itinerary.
BEFORE YOUR VISIT
Tickets and reservations for Florence’s museums
Opening hours, prices and booking arrangements vary by museum and season. Always check the official website of the museum you intend to visit before purchasing tickets.
Book in advance
Advance booking is strongly recommended for the Uffizi and the Accademia, especially during busy periods. Some tickets are tied to a specific entry time.
Use official channels
Buy tickets through museum websites or their official ticketing systems. Take care to distinguish the admission price from fees and additional services offered by third-party resellers.
Consider the Firenze Card
If you plan to visit several museums within three days, compare individual admission costs with the Firenze Card and always check which reservations are still required.
