From 22 September 2022 to 22 January 2023, Palazzo Strozzi hosted Olafur Eliasson: In Your Time, an exhibition devoted to an artist internationally known for his use of light, colour, water and perceptual phenomena.
Olafur Eliasson and the spaces of Palazzo Strozzi
Curated by Arturo Galansino, the project grew out of Eliasson’s direct engagement with Palazzo Strozzi. The route extended through the courtyard, the Piano Nobile and the Strozzina, bringing new installations and historical works into dialogue with the Renaissance architecture.
Many works were not simply objects to look at: they asked visitors to become part of the experience. Reflections, shadows, colour and light continuously altered the perception of space.
Light, water, colour and perception
Eliasson’s work often questions what we consider stable: distance, the form of a room and the relationship between our body and what we see. In Florence, this dialogue was especially striking because of the contrast with the rigorous geometry of Palazzo Strozzi.
A past exhibition worth remembering
The exhibition closed on 22 January 2023. This page remains in the notebook as an archive of the event and as a record of the dialogue between contemporary art and Renaissance architecture in Florence.
